May 1st 2019 started out as a normal work day, but everything changed at a 10am meeting when we were all told our NJ facility would be shutting down the warehouse in 6 months. Although I did not work in the warehouse, all of my data analyst/accounting work was support for the warehouse. I would be losing my 35+ year job as of November 29th. At the end of October I decided while I still had medical to have long overdue neck surgery putting me on disability until January. While I was home I decided to have my mom buy me a Silhouette machine (vinyl) for Christmas. I thought hey I could make decals and shirts for Michael's racing and other sports. Well, that wasn't as easy as I though so now to figure something else out.
Someone mentioned sublimation to me so off I was to look into that. I got myself a sublimation printer, and I already had a heat press from my failed vinyl attempt so I bought some products to sublimate ... t-shirts, mugs, tote bags, puzzles, etc. I stated a Facebook group, and it needed a name. After some thought I came up with PRESS ON by Dawn, which had two meanings. First, whatever I made vinyl, sublimation, and DTG images would need to be heat pressed on. Additionally, press on means to continue moving forward.
In March I bought myself a DTG machine so I would be able to print on dark shirts, and I had started to get requests for bulk order company shirts.
In May 2020, a lot has changed with life in general being quarantined for a few months, but I will continue to press on and hopefully be able to stay home and work in my pajamas sublimating and using the DTG machine while making a little money. I also plan on getting back to that stater Silhouette machine and having the patience to work with vinyl.
For all that have supported this crazy ride of mine, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Direct-to-garment printing (DTG) is a process of printing on textiles using specialized aqueous ink jet technology. Since this is a digital process the print is sharper and has a higher resolution, or DPI, than traditional printing methods such as screen printing. However, unlike screen printing, there is no long setup or clean-up process, and DTG has the ability to print just one single shirt for minimal cost.
Dye-sublimation printing (or dye-sub printing) is a computer printing technique which uses heat to transfer dye onto materials such as a plastic, card, paper, or fabric. The sublimation name was first applied because the dye was considered to make the transition between the solid and gas states without going through a liquid stage. This understanding of the process was later shown to be incorrect, as there is some liquefying of the dye. Since then, the proper name for the process became to be known as dye-diffusion, though this technically-correct term has not supplanted the original name.
